April-Child Abuse Prevention Month

“Every April, Catholic parishes and schools across the United States participate in National Child Abuse Prevention Month. While diocese work year –round to prevent abuse, during this month a special emphasis is placed on the importance of learning to protect the vulnerable from this evil.” The display in the Narthex provides information and awareness of child abuse. Please take a prayer flyer for you and your family to pray for those victims of abuse. The Pinwheel is the national symbol for a great childhood that all children deserve. Please take a pinwheel (one per family) to display in your home. The Church is the Body of Christ. All members of the church are linked to one another. We all have a responsibility to ensure the safety of children in our parishes, schools, families, and local communities. Here are five ways you can help keep children safe: Develop appropriate relationships, teach children safety and healthy boundaries, know who has access to your children; learn the warning signs of abuse, and report abuse to appropriate authorities.” For more information contact the Respect Life Coordinator at admcgrady at gmail.com<mailto:admcgrady at gmail.com>.

Good Friday Led Meditation

After Jesus was nailed to the cross, He spoke seven short expressions. These statements are now commonly referred to as the "The Seven Last Words." These words are recounted in Sacred Scripture and are found throughout the four Gospels. On Good Friday, beginning at 6:00pm, Dcn Dave will lead us in a meditation on these words of Christ. This is a new meditation, and will be offered instead of Stations of the Cross that evening.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament – Holy Thursday/ Good Friday

At the end of the Holy Thursday liturgy, the Blessed Sacrament is transferred from the tabernacle to a Chapel of Repose, where we spend time in adoration. Our parish period of Eucharistic Adoration will begin immediately after the Mass on Holy Thursday (April 18) and continue through the night, ending on Good Friday (April 19) at 2pm, immediately before the Friday Passion of the Lord. We need adorers to spend at least one hour with Our Lord. A sign-up sheet is located in the Narthex. If you have any questions, please contact Kathy Thomas, 528-8407, or email kthomas at saintgabriel.net<mailto:kthomas at saintgabriel.net>.
